Fresh batch of Arab cadets graduates from Pakistan Military Academy

  • Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa presents awards to distinguished graduates
  • Gen Bajwa advises newly graduated officers to be just and impartial commanders

ISLAMABAD: A number of cadets from Iraq, Palestine and Qatar were among recruits who completed their training at the Pakistan Military Academy on Saturday, the Pakistani military said, as Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa presented awards to distinguished graduates.

The Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul, Abbottabad provides initial training to cadets of Pakistan Army as well as recruits from friendly countries, including Saudi Arabia and others from the Middle East and elsewhere in the world.

The army chief reviewed the passing-out parade and gave awards to distinguished cadets.

“Passed out cadets were of 146th PMA Long Course, 34th Technical Graduate Course, 65th Integrated Course, 20th Lady Cadet Course and 5th Basic Military Training Course,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani military’s media wing, said in a statement.

“Cadets from Palestine, Maldives, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Iraq were also among the passed out courses.”

In his address to attendees and passed-out cadets, Gen Bajwa said Pakistan Army, with full support and confidence of the nation, had successfully “turned the tide against the menace of terrorism” in the last two decades and ensured that “organized terrorism” was decisively rooted out from Pakistan.

“This is indeed a unique accomplishment that not many countries or armies can claim,” he said.

He told the passed-out cadets that a just and impartial commander, who exhibited merit in dispensation of reward and punishment, would earn unconditional loyalty and obedience of his under-command.

“As a leader, you need to have courage and ability to take difficult decisions and then accept full responsibility. Correct decision-making requires competence and confidence,” the army chief said.

“The contagious energy that you would instill in your men, when you lead them by example and not merely by words.”

He urged the officers and graduates to always remain alert and prepared to respond to and defeat all intrigues and conspiracies hatched against Pakistan with an iron fist.

Gen Bajwa said the message was clear: “The Armed Forces with the support of our citizens will never allow any country, group or force to politically or economically destabilize Pakistan.”

Pakistan to take on India in Super Six fixture of Men’s U19 World Cup — PCB

  • Pakistan need to defeat India by a healthy margin to secure a spot in semifinals
  • England sit at the top of the table with six points in the mega cricket tournament

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan are all geared up to take on India in their final Super Six fixture of the ICC Under-19 (U19) Men’s Cricket World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said late Friday.

Pakistan will face arch-rivals India at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday, February 1, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 9.30am local time.

The last time two sides met was during the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup final, where Pakistan defeated India by 191 runs to clinch the title at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. Sameer Minhas scored 172 runs while right-arm pacer Ali Raza bagged four wickets.

Pakistan, who currently have four points and are placed third in Group 2 of the Super Six stage, need to defeat India by a healthy margin to secure a spot in the semifinals. England sit at the top of the table with six points and are currently playing New Zealand at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

“Our next match is against India, which is very important as there is a semifinal at stake. We have clear plans for every match and we put in a lot of hard work accordingly,” said Usman Khan, who has scored 122 runs from four matches in the ongoing mega event.

“We will try to perform well in the next game to qualify for the next stage.”

After arriving in Bulawayo from Harare on Wednesday afternoon, Pakistan took a day off before participating in a scenario-based practice game at the Bulawayo Athletic Club on Friday. Pakistan will also take part in a training session at the same venue today (Saturday).

“Before the tournament, we held several camps in Multan where a strong focus was placed on fielding. We had productive sessions there and as a result the team has improved a lot in this department,” Khan said.

“Our preparations have been very good. The scenario-based match was of high quality and it closely reflected actual match conditions.”
