Saudi Arabia arrests 12,436 illegals in one week

RIYADH: Saudi authorities arrested 12,436 people in one week for breaching residency, work and border security regulations, according to an official report.

From Sept. 22 to 28, a total of 6,911 people were arrested for violations of residency rules, while 3,249 were held over illegal border crossing attempts, and a further 2,276 for labor-related issues.

The report showed that among the 198 people arrested for trying to enter the Kingdom illegally, a further 44 people were caught trying to cross into neighboring countries, and eight were held for involvement in transporting and harboring violators.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior said that anyone found to be aiding illegal entry to the Kingdom, including transporting and providing shelter, could face imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years, a fine of up to SR1 million ($260,000), or confiscation of vehicles and property.

Saudi foreign minister arrives in Poland on official visit

LONDON: Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, arrived in the Polish capital, Warsaw, on an official visit on Sunday.

He is scheduled to meet on Monday with Radoslaw Sikorski, the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

They will discuss relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them across various fields, SPA added.
