JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation has condemned intensive firing by illegal Armenian armed detachments against Azerbaijani army positions within Azerbaijan territory earlier this month.
The organization called on Armenia to fulfill its obligations in accordance with the trilateral statement signed between Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation on Nov. 10 2020, and withdraw the illegal armed detachments from Azerbaijan territory.
Recalling the resolution adopted by the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers at its 48th session in Islamabad in March this year, the organization called for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia on the basis of mutual recognition of and respect for each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and internationally recognized borders.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and security issues on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border in a phone call, the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Kremlin last week called for restraint from both sides after Azerbaijan said its forces had foiled an Armenian attack near the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is part of Azerbaijan but is largely controlled by ethnic Armenians with support from Armenia.
