JEDDAH, 14 May  — The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) will organize tomorrow in Jeddah a symposium on the design and construction of earthquake resisting buildings to appraise developers and engineering offices of how to address problems associated with such kinds of risks. SGS President, Dr. Muhammad ibn Asaad Tawfiq, said the two-day function will address a number of issues relating to the seismological situation in the Kingdom in light of the studies conducted so far, the importance of geological surveys in identifying earthquake-prone areas, engineering aspects associated with earthquakes and finding engineering solutions to problems faced by existing buildings. Abdullah Showayel, head of SGS earthquake center, said Saudi experts would be joined by others from different countries who will present papers and research studies on assessing and analyzing the subject.
