ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan is scheduled to address “the largest ever rally” in Abbottabad’s history on Sunday as he tries to galvanize Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters across the country ahead of his anti-government march to Islamabad in the coming weeks.
Khan, who was ousted from power last month in a no-confidence vote, has rejected the new administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He also maintains that the downfall of his administration was the result of a foreign conspiracy which was hatched in the United States and implemented by his rival political parties in Pakistan.
Khan has held rallies in various cities in the last few weeks while demanding fresh elections in the country.
The PTI chairman has announced he would march to Islamabad toward the end of this month along with thousands of his supporters to put pressure on the government to hold new polls.
“In his great struggle for genuine independence, PTI chairman Imran Khan will address several public gatherings in the next two weeks,” tweeted Khan’s PTI party. “For this purpose, he will address the biggest rally in the history of Abbottabad today, May 8,” it added.
As per the schedule shared by his party, Khan will address a political gathering in Jhelum next on May 10, followed by rallies in other cities like Attock, Mardan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Swabi, Kohat, Lahore, Chakwal and Multan.
The PTI chairman requested the overseas Pakistanis on Saturday to fund his anti-government march in a video message.
