ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s planning minister Asad Umar said on Sunday the government’s mobile inoculation campaign against COVID-19 was “producing outstanding results” as the country set the “highest daily vaccination record” for three days in a row.
The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the country’s central pandemic response body, announced to launch a door-to-door coronavirus vaccination drive earlier this month to administer over 35 million shots as officials said Pakistan was witnessing the fifth wave of the pandemic.
The initiative was taken to accelerate the official immunization campaign amid a surge in COVID-19 cases caused by the highly transmissible omicron variant of the virus.
“Highest daily vaccination records set 3 days in a row,” Umar, who also heads the NCOC, said in a Twitter post. “Nation wide mobile vaccination campaign designed by NCOC and being implemented with help of provinces producing outstanding results. Target is to reach all citizens to allow us to finally end all covid related restrictions.”
According to the official statistics, the government administered over 1.84 million vaccines across the country in the last 24 hours.
The NCOC announced on Twitter on Monday that “38 percent of total population and 56 percent of eligible population stand vaccinated.”
The country witnessed yet another decline in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases which stood at 3,338 on Sunday.
Pakistan conducted 44,779 tests and recorded a positivity rate of 7.45 percent in the last 24 hours.
