Saudi Arabia confirms 12 COVID-19 deaths, 766 new cases

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recorded 12 new COVID-19 related deaths on Thursday, raising the total number of fatalities to 8,378.
The Ministry of Health confirmed 766 new cases reported in the Kingdom in the previous 24 hours, meaning 536,693 people have now contracted the disease. 
Of the total number of cases, 9,404 remain active and 1,387 in critical condition.
According to the ministry, the highest number of cases were recorded in the capital Riyadh with 133, followed by Makkah with 127, the Eastern Province with 113, Asir recorded 80, and Qassim confirmed 73 cases.
The health ministry also announced that 1,532 patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 518,911.
Over 31 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in the Kingdom to date through 587 centers. About 58.95 percent of the population had received the first dose, while 30.29 percent had completed both doses. At this rate, 70 percent of the population is expected to have completed both doses by October 13, 2021.
The ministry renewed its call on the public to register with the Sehhaty app to receive the vaccine, and adhere to the measures and abide by instructions.

Meanwhile, Jazan's education department has set up 15 additional vaccination centers around the region to inoculate students aged between 12 to 18 years, before the start of the academic year.
Jazan University also set up seven mobile centers to provide the vaccines to a number of schools in Jazan and Sabya, in addition to the vaccination center at the university hospital headquarters, which has 106 clinics.
Jeddah authorities have closed 55 commercial outlets for breaching coronavirus protocols, as municipalities in the Kingdom stepped up their efforts to ensure compliance with safety measures designed to protect public health.
The municipality of Jeddah governorate carried out 4,073 inspection tours of commercial centers and facilities in one day, identifying 57 violations.
Officials have urged the public to report any suspected health breaches by phoning the 940 call center number or using the Balady app.
The Eastern Province’s Municipality issued fines to 64 shops for violating preventive measures, during 1,416 monitoring rounds carried out on Wednesday.
The municipality said its call center received 22 reports of violations from the public.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs reopened three mosques in two region after temporarily evacuating and sterilizing them after three people tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of mosques closed and reopened after being sterilized to 1,991 within 187 days.
