ISLAMABAD: The World Economic Forum (WEF) has recognized Pakistan's climate action plan, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Sunday as he shared a WEF video highlighting the South Asian nation's environmental policies.
In the video, the organization that holds an annual gathering of the global leaders of industry and politics in Davos, highlighted what it called Pakistan's ways of building "a greener future."
The video says Pakistan had pledged to source 60 percent of energy from renewables by 2030 and had replaced coal projects with hydroelectric power. It also highlights the creation of 15 new national parks in Pakistan and a $500 million "green Eurobond," which Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party-led government is planning to launch soon.
"Globally PTI's environment policies are being recognised esp our green recovery programme from the Covid 19 pandemic and our Climate action plan," the prime minister said in a tweet.
In the wake of the pandemic, the government says it has created more than 80,000 green jobs since March 2020 — from plant care to the protection of forests — as part of the flagship 10 Billion Tree Tsunami program.
The daily wage jobs include planting tree saplings, nursery raising, plant care, protection of natural forests and firefighting.
