TOKYO: Japan has declared a state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic for Tokyo and three nearby areas as cases continued to surge, hitting a daily record of 2,447 in the capital.

The declaration kicks in Friday until Feb. 7, and centers around asking restaurants and bars to close at 8 p.m. and people to stay home and not mingle in crowds.

ROME: Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani has died, his ‌foundation said ‌on ‌Monday.
He ⁠was ​93.
“Valentino ‌Garavani passed away today at his Roman residence, surrounded by ⁠his loved ‌ones,” the ‍foundation ‍said on Instagram.
The ‍lying in state will be on Wednesday ​and Thursday, while the funeral ⁠will take place in Rome on Friday at 11 am (1000 GMT), it added.
