ISLAMABAD: Russian troops arrived in Pakistan on Thursday to take part in a joint Russian-Pakistani military exercise called Druzhba (Friendship) 5, the Pakistan army’s media wing said.
A video posted on twitter showed Russian soldiers being checked for fever as they stepped on Pakistani soil.
“The exercise is aimed at sharing both armies experiences in counter terrorism domain,” the Pakistani military said in a tweet. “Sky diving & hostage rescue operations will be highlights of exercise.”

The Russian defense ministry said the exercise was aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
The two-week-long drill will commence on November 8 in Tarbela, with around 70 troops and officers from each side participating in the exercise. The drill will end on November 21.
“During the exercise, the military personnel of the two countries will exchange experience and work out interaction in performing tasks within the framework of training combat operations, in particular, to destroy illegal armed formations,” the Russian defense ministry said.
