ISLAMABAD: Pakistani President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday met newly crowned emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Kuwait and offered condolences on the passing of Kuwaiti ruler Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah last month.
Sheikh Sabah had ruled Kuwait, an OPEC oil producer and a US ally, since 2006 and steered its foreign policy for more than 50 years. He passed away on September 29 at the age of 91.
“During his meeting with the new emir of Kuwait, High Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the President offered profound sympathies and heartfelt condolences on behalf of the leadership, Government and people of Pakistan,” the foreign office said in a statement. “The President conveyed that the Pakistani nation fully shared the sorrow and grief of their Kuwaiti brethren and stood by them in this difficult time.”

“The late emir’s services to the Kuwaiti nation, his contribution to the Pakistan-Kuwait relationship, and his efforts for regional peace and stability will be long remembered,” the president said.
