Arab coalition intercepts Houthi ballistic missile targeting Saudi Arabia

  • The missile, that aimed to attack civilian targets in the Kingdom's southern region, was destroyed on Sunday afternoon
  • The OIC condemned the Houthis for continuing to launch missiles toward the Kingdom

RIYADH: The Arab coalition fighting the Iranian-backed Houthi movement in Yemen said on Sunday that it had intercepted and downed a ballistic missile launched toward civilian targets in southern Saudi Arabia.
Cross-border attacks by the Houthi militias have escalated since late May. In late June, missiles reached the Saudi capital Riyadh. The coalition has retaliated with airstrikes.
On Thursday the coalition said it had intercepted and downed an armed drone and two ballistic missiles launched toward southern Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the deputy spokesman for the Civil Defense Directorate in Jazan region, Lt. Col. Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Samghan, said that the Saudi authorities discovered a mine hidden in a rock in Ahad Al-Masarihah governorate. He said the mine must have been washed away by flooding in Yemen. The authorities successfully dismantled the mine.
More than 1.1 million mines were planted by the Houthi militias in Yemen during the conflict.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the Houthis for continuing to launch missiles toward the Kingdom.

Saudi and New Zealand foreign ministers discussed Mideast situation

RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discussed the current situation in the Middle East with New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Peters expressed New Zealand’s condemnation of Iran’s indiscriminate attacks on the Kingdom and thanked Riyadh for its efforts to protect foreign nationals, including New Zealanders inside the Kingdom.
The Saudi military has shot down numerous missiles and drones fired by Tehran toward the Kingdom since the US and Israel began a large-scale military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28.
The Saudi Defense Ministry said early Tuesday that it had shot down a ballistic missile in the Eastern Province after knocking out several drones targeting the Shaybah oil field in the Empty quarter on Friday evening.
