JEDDAH: The fifth edition of Basta Market launched in the north side of the Jeddah Center for Events and Forums on Friday, under the auspices of Fayez Al-Harbi, founder of Basta Market and vice chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).
The market is supported by the JCCI and aims to promote Saudi entrepreneurs, as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Al-Harbi and members of the JCCI praised the market’s role in backing SMEs and promoting tourism, trade and economic development.
Traders in the annual Basta Market — with over 150 booths open to customers from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday for the next seven weeks — are showcasing a wide range of products, from food and fashion accessories to art.
In addition to the vast array of cultural activities the annual market has to offer, new ones have been introduced, with many geared toward families with children, including a water balls playground, climbing and graffiti walls, and face painting. The market is expected to achieve a record number of visitors.

Kingdom, UNDP sign deal to boost road sector
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Roads General Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with the UN Development Programme to enhance cooperation and expand international partnerships in the roads sector.
The agreement supports the authority’s efforts to improve the efficiency of the sector and strengthen its presence in specialized international forums, in line with the roads sector program objectives.
The deal focuses on exchanging expertise across multiple areas and developing scientific studies and research according to international best practices, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
Through the collaboration, the authority will align local standards with global expertise while fostering partnerships that drive innovation, improve safety and enhance the quality of the Kingdom’s road network.
The authority highlighted its commitment to implementing key projects and initiatives to develop the network, including reducing road fatalities to fewer than five per 100,000 people, achieving a global ranking of sixth in the Road Quality Index by 2030 and ensuring the road network meets traffic safety standards set by the International Road Assessment Programme.
