NEW YORK: Pop diva Mariah Carey has had a long list of hits over the years, but her classic holiday song has helped her make history as the first artist to top the Billboard charts in four separate decades.
"All I Want For Christmas Is You" is number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week dated January 4, 2020, based on sales, radio airplay and streaming data -- its third week atop the rankings.
That means Carey has had a number one single in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.
The bubbly, ubiquitous holiday tune was first released in 1994 and gained new fame after its inclusion on the soundtrack for the 2003 film "Love, Actually."
But it only topped the charts for the first time in late 2019, thanks to a change in Billboard's rules as to what can be included on the top songs list.
Carey dropped a new video for it -- which counts towards Hot 100 placement -- and released the song as a stand-alone CD single for the first time.
It is her 19th number one hit, according to Billboard, putting her just one song behind The Beatles' overall record of 20 top songs.
The singer -- who will not confirm whether her age is 49 or 50 because she says "time is not something I acknowledge" -- was low-key about her history-making achievement.
"Yaaaaaaaaay!!! WE. DID. IT," Carey wrote on Twitter, with a stream of champagne and party emojis.
"But.... what's a decade?"

Lolo Zouai’s ‘Desert Rose PT.II’ tops Algerian R&B chart
DUBAI: French Algerian singer Lolo Zouai’s latest single, “Desert Rose PT.II,” climbed to No. 1 on Algeria’s R&B chart within 24 hours of release.
The milestone follows a live performance of the track on Berlin-based platform “Colors” this week. The song is a sequel to “Desert Rose,” which appeared on her 2019 debut album, “High Highs to Low Lows.”
Zouai marked the achievement on Instagram, sharing a series of posts including a photo of herself wearing an Algeria football jersey, alongside the single’s cover art and a screenshot showing its chart ranking.
“Grateful for the love on this one. Can’t wait for you to hear the studio version and the rest of ‘Reverie’,” she wrote.
She also reposted a collage of fan reactions, including a TikTok video that read: “It’s 2026 and we still haven’t had another song like ‘Desert Rose’ out.” Others said: “Can’t wait for Desert Rose pt. 2” and “wdym desert rose pt. 2?!?!?!”
The multilingual track features lyrics in Arabic, French and English, highlighting the cross-cultural influences that define the singer’s sound.
“Desert Rose PT.II” offers an early glimpse of forthcoming album “Reveries,” Zouai’s third studio release which is due on April 24. She confirmed the date last month following the release of the music video for “Holding On,” another single from the project.
Blending R&B with dance-pop elements, “Holding On” delves into themes of grief and memory. The video is dedicated to Zouai’s close friend, Hanna Rosa Hotchkiss, who died in 2021.
In a statement on Instagram, Zouai described the album as the product of a transformative period in her life: “This record was made through three years of grief, growth, and reflection. I had to lose myself to find myself again. I couldn’t have done it without my angel, Hanna. Thank you to my collaborators, my friends, and my Lo-riders who held me down through it all. I hope it heals you the way it healed me.”
Known for her blend of R&B, club-pop and hip-hop, Zouai has gained an international fan base for her dynamic stage presence and genre-blending music.
