Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Suwailem has been the CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SIAP) since July 2018.

Al-Suwailem has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from King Saud University and a doctorate in biotechnology and genetic engineering from the University of Sheffield, where he conducted research in genomics, peritonitis, biosafety, and genetic modification. 

He has also lectured at universities, conferences, and seminars locally and internationally.

Experience

He previously worked at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), starting as natural resources and environment research institute director from 2002 to 2010. 

He was head of the Life Science and Environment Section from 2009 to 2010, and has been vice-president for scientific research support since 2010.

Al-Suwailem is experienced in intellectual property rights on a local and international scale. He served as an adviser to the World Intellectual Property Organization and UNESCO.

He is also a member of the board of directors at King Faisal Specialist Hospital, the Communications and Information Technology Commission, the Supreme Petroleum Council Preparatory Committee and other organizations.

Saudi Arabia intercepts drones targeting Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter and Shaybah field

Spokesperson of the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, said a hostile drone was shot down while attempting to approach the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh. He added that two additional drones were intercepted and destroyed in the Empty Quarter as they were heading toward the Shaybah oil field.
