ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy’s international exercise in oil spill response commenced in Karachi on Monday, attended by observers from 11 maritime countries, the navy said in a press statement.
The 10th edition of exercise Barracuda, which runs through Wednesday, aims at sharing Pakistan’s expertise in mitigating the negative effects of oil spills and pollution at sea.
This year’s training involves observers from Bahrain, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Maldives, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.
According to the statement, the national stakeholders involved in the navy’s exercise are the Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), Port Qasim Authority, Karachi Port Trust, as well as the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
