Serbia fight back to beat Saudi Arabia in friendly

  • Despite a resilient defensive effort, Saudi Arabia were unable to respond late on to find an equalizer

BELGRADE: Serbia came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia in an international friendly on Tuesday.

The Green Falcons made a bright start and took the lead in the eighth minute through Abdullah Al-Hamdan, who finished early to give the visitors a surprise advantage at half-time.

Serbia dominated possession and chances after the break, however, and turned the game around in quick succession.

Strahinja Pavlovic equalized in the 66th minute before Aleksandar Mitrovic struck four minutes later to complete the comeback.

The hosts controlled much of the contest, finishing with 23 shots to Saudi Arabia’s three, while forcing eight saves from the visiting goalkeeper.

Despite a resilient defensive effort, Saudi Arabia were unable to respond late on as Serbia saw out the win.
