JEDDAH: The annual international competition for the memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Qur’an reflects the importance that the Kingdom attaches to the service of the holy book and Islam, said Media Minister Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad.
The “prestigious” contest is “greatly supported” by the king and crown prince, and “has attracted memorizers of the Holy Qur’an from all over the world,” said Al-Awwad.
The minister patronized this year’s competition, organized by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance.
Since the contest’s inception 40 years ago, it has attracted more than 6,200 contestants from 100 countries.
