RIYADH: Three men wanted by Saudi Arabia's security forces were killed Thursday after they opened fire on security forces from a house in Qatif.

The men, all Saudi nationals, were named as Mohammed Hassan Ahmed Al-Zayed, Mufeed Hamza Ali Ulwan, and Khalil Ibrahim Hassan Al-Muslim, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Three security officers were injured during the operation and no civilian casualties were reported.

A spokesman for the Presidency of State Security said officers were able to locate the three suspects in a house in central Qatif on Thursday night “as a result of the security monitoring and surveillance of suspects related to terrorist incidents that took place in Qatif, Eastern Province."

“The suspects started shooting at security personnel after they surrounded the area and called on them to surrender," the spokesman said. "They endangered the safety of residents and passersby."

The security forces returned fire, killing the three men, Al-Zayed had been on the run since 2012 and Al-Alwan since 2016.

“The Presidency of State Security will continue to pursue criminals and all those who dare to violate the Kingdom’s security through such activities and calls on the rest of the wanted people to turn themselves in,” the spokesman said.

Riyadh workshop focuses on Yemen capacity building

RIYADH: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen is hosting a three-day capacity-building workshop in Riyadh as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Yemeni institutional capacities.

The workshop is organized in cooperation with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

It includes 10 sessions aimed at transferring expertise in zakat and customs and developing infrastructure at border crossings, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

Participants include representatives from all three organizations, as well as officials from Yemen’s Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Ministry of Finance, and Yemeni tax and customs authorities.

The workshop is part of the program’s continued efforts to support Yemen by enhancing institutional and technical capacities and strengthening expertise in key financial and economic sectors.

The program has launched various projects and initiatives to strengthen institutional, technical, and community capacities, enabling government institutions to identify needs, assess capabilities, and deliver services efficiently.

The workshop builds on broader capacity-building efforts, including a comprehensive program launched in mid-2021 to strengthen the capabilities of Yemen’s ministries of planning and finance.

It also follows a workshop held in November 2022 on developing Yemeni institutional capacities that brought together eight international organizations and UN bodies.
