OIC chief calls on Kabul’s government to respond to ‘Peace and Stability in Afghanistan’ conference

DUBAI: Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, called on Kabul’s government and all components of Afghan society to respond to the conference hosted by Saudi Arabia regarding peace and stability in Afghanistan, Saudi state TV Al-Ekhbariya reported on Tuesday.

Organized by the OIC, the event titled “International Ulema Conference on Peace and Stability in Afghanistan” aims to help bring peace and stability in a country that has long been a victim of extremism.

At the conference’s opening, Al-Othaimeen said that Afghanistan has passed through difficult circumstances involving killings and destruction.

He said that the conference comes as a response to the disruption that is taking place in the country.

Meanwhile, Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Abdullatif AL-Asheikh offered Saudi Arabia’s support to Afghanistan, saying: “The Kingdom was and still is the best support for its brothers in the Islamic world.”

“Islamic law emphasized unity and discard the difference,” he added.

Al-Asheikh also thanked King Salman for hosting the conference, which will conclude in Makkah.

Religious scholars from Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Egypt and other Muslim countries were also attending the conference.

The even is moderated by the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh Dr. Shouqi Ibrahim Allam, where the second plenary session will discuss Islam’s position on terrorism and violent extremism.
