ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Nasser Khan Janjua has resigned from his post.
His resignation was accepted by the caretaker Prime Minister Justice (Retd.) Nasir-ul-Mulk, on Tuesday, an official notification said.
A former three-star general in Pakistan’s army, Janjua, had been serving as the national security adviser since October 2015, soon after he retired from the Army. He held the key post of Southern Command Quetta as Lt. Gen. before his retirement.
As National Security Adviser, for nearly three years, he played an active role to further strengthen Pakistan’s bilateral relations with Central Asian Republics (CARs).
Meetings he held with the Afghan leadership led to a thawing of relations between Pakistan and its western neighbor.
In March this year, Janjua met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul, who then invited Pakistan’s Prime Minister at the time, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, to visit Afghanistan.
