UN agencies in Yemen must not limit their presence to Sanaa: Maarib governor

LONDON: Ma’arib Governor General Sultan Al-Arradah criticized on Monday the UN’s organizations working in Yemen under the umbrella of the Houthi militia.

The governor added that Houthi militia have been putting pressure on UN agencies to modify their reports sent to New York and Geneva to portray the Houthi in a good light.

The statement from the Ma’arib governor came as he welcomed the head of the Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), who was visiting the province to inspect its humanitarian needs.

The general called on all UN agencies to visit all provinces and see for themselves the humanitarian situation in each area.

OCHA’s representative said that her visit was only to discuss OCHA’s plans for 2018 in Yemen and to see the exact needs for each province after cross-checking reported needs with actual facts on the ground.
