JEDDAH: Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, governor of Makkah, signed a contract to import, operate and maintain Makkah Public Transportation Program (MPTP) buses with an alliance of national and international specialized companies.
Hisham Al-Faleh, secretary-general of the Makkah Development Authority, which is supervising the program, said that the new buses will help in facilitating the circulation of traffic in Makkah, putting a limit to the social and economic losses resulting from car accidents and reducing environmental pollution.
This program is expected to provide more than 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Prince Khaled expressed appreciation on behalf of the people of Taif and for himself to King Salman for inaugurating the program that costs SR11 billion ($2.93 billion). This program falls among Vision 2030 programs.
Earlier, Prince Khaled said that local transport projects should keep pace with the increasing number of pilgrims.
He said that Makkah transport projects should achieve their targets to facilitate the citizens and pilgrims.

Festival of Cultures to feature more than 90 countries
MADINAH: The Festival of Cultures and Peoples will run from Feb. 12 to 19 at the Islamic University of Madinah with broad participation representing more than 90 countries across the world’s continents.
The event is presented as a cultural and humanitarian showcase that reflects values of diversity and coexistence, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.
The festival will offer more than 100 activities for all age groups. The programs include cultural and heritage performances, pavilions introducing world cultures, and more than 100 play areas for children, enriching the experience for visitors.
More than 30 restaurants will take part, serving international dishes that reflect the heritage of participating countries. The tasting experience highlights the richness and variety of global cuisines.
The festival builds on its success in previous years, the Saudi Press Agency reported. It is positioned as a global cultural platform that highlights shared values among peoples, strengthens civilizational communication, and reinforces the message of moderation and openness represented by the Kingdom.
