Doctors caught on camera fighting in operation theater of Indian hospital

DUBAI: The operating theater of a hospital in Udaipur, India, turned into a battleground Tuesday when two doctors engaged in an intense verbal spat during a procedure on a pregnant woman.
A video of the incident, shot on the mobile phone of a staff member, has gone viral and it is being investigated by the Umaid Hospital.
The emergency operation took place due to the low heartbeat of the fetus and the argument began when Dr. Ashok Nainwal, the obstetrician, asked a colleague whether the patient had eaten before the operation.
The anesthetist, Dr. ML Tak, reportedly attempted to have a junior doctor carry out tests which Nainwal did not agree with.
“You stay within your aukat (limits),” Nainwal reportedly screamed at the anesthetist, according to the Asian Age newspaper.
Other doctors and nurses can be seen trying to calm the situation as the doctors shouted at each other using explicit language.
When the baby was delivered, it did not survive. However, it is not clear whether this is a result of the argument.
The superintendent of the hospital, Ranjana Desai, said the woman was brought into the hospital in a critical condition and was shifted to the operation theater for a C-section before losing her baby.
“We are yet to ascertain if the newborn’s death was because of the spat. The cause of death is severe birth asphyxia,” she said, according to the Hindustan Times.
Rajasthan’s High Court has asked the hospital to submit a report by 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
