Meet the Dubai Police officer who was promoted for fining himself

DUBAI: A police officer in Dubai has been promoted after he hit a parked vehicle and promptly issued a fine in his own name.
Dubai Police shared a photograph of a ceremony in which the officer was handed a certificate of appreciation on their Twitter account on Wednesday, alongside details of the incident which occurred on March 22.
Corporal Abdullah Ebrahim Mohammad hit a car belonging to an Egyptian doctor and proceeded to issue himself a fine.

He was praised for his honestly by Major General Abdullah Al Merri, Dubai Police’s commander-in-chief, who ordered that he be given a promotion.
“The honesty of the cop has given the Dubai Police a good reputation among the public. He fined himself for hitting the parked car and put a copy of the accident report on the windshield, which surprised the owner when he came and found his car damaged,” Major General Al Merri said, according to Gulf News.
The vehicle’s owner, Mohammad Ahmad Nabeel Abdul Aziz posted about the incident on Facebook.
“I parked my car in bad way and I thought it was my mistake, but I was shocked when I saw a traffic report of the accident on the windshield saying that a policeman hit my car and fined himself. It’s a noble and brave behavior by Dubai Police,” he wrote on Facebook.

Small dog sole survivor of Peru helicopter crash that killed 15

  • Local media reported that the dog appeared OK, but as a precaution was taken to a veterinary clinic

LIMA: The only survivor of a military helicopter crash in southern Peru that killed 15 people was a small dog belonging to a colonel who was among the passengers, an air force source told AFP Tuesday.
Rescue workers found the caramel-colored dog among the twisted wreckage of the Mi-17 helicopter that crashed Sunday. It was lying next to the body of its owner, Col. Javier Nole, 50, who was on board with his wife and two daughters.
“It’s Col. Nole’s pet; it’s the only survivor,” the source, who requested anonymity, told AFP.
Local media reported that the dog appeared OK, but as a precaution was taken to a veterinary clinic.
Seven children were among the 15 fatalities when the Russian-made aircraft crashed in the Arequipa region. The helicopter had been recently deployed in rescue operations for victims of floods there.
It had taken off from the city of Pisco, in the Ica region. Rescuers located the wreckage on Monday just over 300 kilometers (186 miles) away near Chala Viejo, a town close to the Pacific coast in Arequipa.
The air force has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
