Heading into Sunday’s game against the Orlando Magic, Allen needs five more 3s to tie the former Indiana Pacers star and six to surpass him as the shot’s most prolific practitioner.
Allen hit three 3-pointers against Dallas on Friday night.
But the Mavericks won when Jason Kidd scored from beyond the arc with 2.5 seconds left.
Kidd is third in 3-pointers — more than 800 behind Allen and Miller.
