The double-storied 100,000-square-foot store, the first of its kind in Riyadh, will offer opportunity to men, women and children of different ethnic backgrounds to buy styles off the racks, including latest in electronics, fashion and furnishings.
“This Lulu Department Store will roll out over 300 new styles and hundreds of promotions on a daily basis that will include trendiest garments, footwear, electronics and home appliances to watches, toys and cosmetics for women,” said Sehim Mohammed Unni, Lulu’s commercial manager, here on Saturday.
He said Lulu was already a well-known purveyor of all kinds of goods among Saudi and expatriate consumers.
Unni pointed out that the store’s special sections for ladies wear would be manned by women staffers — a major concern for women shoppers in the Kingdom.
The electronics and home furnishing sections will give more options to customers with different tastes and ethnic background, said Unni. He said the store has ample space with a quick check-out facility from any of its 18 cash counters.
Referring to the goods sold at the store, he said that the products were imported from the best manufacturers of the world.
“We can boast of providing the best in all segments to our loyal customers in Saudi Arabia,” said Unni.
Unni said Lulu holds 32 percent of the retail sector of the Middle East. He said the department store is owned by EMKE Group, which has ventured into varied businesses operating in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen.
The Emke Group, which has an annual turnover of $3.1 billion, operates popular brands of retail chain stores that include the renowned Lulu chain of supermarkets, department stores, hypermarkets and now shopping malls.
The group’s retail chains cater to over 320,000 customers everyday and enjoy over 32 percent of the total retail market share within the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
The group is opening five hypermarkets in GCC in this week. With the opening of forthcoming stores and malls the group’s market share in the retail business will also be progressively increasing.
