JEDDAH: Rosewood Corniche will be taking part in Earth Hour on Saturday (March 27). The five-star luxury hotel overlooking the Red Sea will turn off all exterior lighting as well as the lights in the hotel’s public areas, back of house, and common areas. Furthermore, guests will be encouraged to take part in the event by turning off their room and suite lights at 8:30 p.m. for one hour. “People from every corner of the globe will come together for Earth Hour and we are continuing to extend our support to this important initiative this year,” said Hans-Peter Lietske, managing director, Rosewood Corniche, which boasts 24-hour butler service, and 127 guestrooms and suites.
JEDDAH: Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) Airbus A330-300 aircraft, featuring the airline’s latest product and service offerings, will soon operate on selected routes serving the Middle East, and West and North Asia. From March 28-29, the airline will commence A330-300 services to Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. From April 28, A330-300s will be deployed to Fukuoka and Taipei, and from May 1 the aircraft will serve Colombo. The SIA A330-300 is configured in a two-class layout with 30 Business Class and 255 Economy Class seats. The Business Class cabin is laid out in a 2-2-2 configuration featuring a new seat specially designed from regional and medium-haul routes. The seat converts to an incline lie-flat bed and offers enhanced levels of comfort, privacy and functionality.
ABU DHABI: Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has commenced operations to Japan with the launch of its Nagoya-Abu Dhabi service. The Abu Dhabi-based carrier will initially fly four times a week to Nagoya, via Beijing, increasing to five flights a week from March 29, operating two-class Airbus A330 aircraft on the route. With the addition of Nagoya and Tokyo to its network, the carrier offers services to eight destinations in the Far East including Beijing, Jakarta, Manila, Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, and 60 others worldwide. In addition to its own operations, Etihad also recently started offering code share services with Japan’s ANA, offering connections for its passengers from Nagoya to Chitose and Fukuoka and through Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Osaka, and for ANA passengers, connections to Etihad’s worldwide network via its Abu Dhabi hub.
ALEXANDRIA: Egyptian Tourism Minister Zoheir Garranah and Alexandria Gov. Major General Adel Labib, announced at a recent event selecting Alexandria as the capital of Arab Tourism for 2010. Alexandria was selected from among 12 other Arab cities applied for the competition. The idea of selecting an Arab city as the capital of Arab Tourism followed Arab League’s initiative to annually select one Arab city to be the capital of Arab Tourism. This aims to encourage the Inter-Arab Tourism initiative along with highlighting customs and traditions each city is characterized with, in addition to bringing into view the tourism value of each city selected. The reason behind selecting Alexandria is related to the deep-rooted history of Alexandria, which is considered a city with a rich history of several civilizations. It is also distinguished with a mild climate in the summer and winter seasons, in addition to its beautiful shores that extend along the Mediterranean seacoast.
DAMMAM: Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline, will introduce daily flights from Dammam to Thiruvananthapuram, its third daily service to India from the Kingdom, effective Sunday (March 28). The airline currently flies daily to Mumbai from Riyadh and Jeddah. The airline will deploy a state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft on this route, offering Premiere and Economy guests an in-flight product that is among the best in its class, warm service, award-winning In-Flight Entertainment, as well as delectable cuisine.
