JEDDAH: The Annual Sports Day for boys and girls of the Pakistan International School (English Section) Jeddah was held with pomp and pageantry recently with Red House bagging the overall House Championship.

Zaigham Uddin Azam, consul general of Pakistan was the chief guest in the boys section, while his wife was the chief guest of the girls section, respectively.

The students were divided into four houses namely Red, Green, Yellow and Blue.

Throwing light on the importance of sports, the consul general said, "I'm very much impressed by the skills and techniques shown by the students of all grades during this sporting event.

"The PISJ (ES) has been in the forefront in organizing various social, cultural and sporting programs for the community as well as the students. Today's event is further evidence to their efforts in promoting sporting culture not only for students but also among the parents and teachers, too."

He wished them success and to work hard in the future.

The events started with the lighting of the Olympic Torch.

All the houses compete in different including track races, gymnastics, PT displays, musical chairs, relay race and tug-of-war, which were conducted under the supervision of the Physical Education teacher, Hamid Rasheed.

Students and teachers were very active, enthusiastic and performed their best to take their house on the victory stand. Teachers and non-teaching staff including parents took part in tug-of-war and were cheered by the spectators.

Earlier, during the opening ceremony, Sehar Kamran, acting principal and director of finance and administration, addressed the participants and students representing four houses.

She praised the management, staffs, P.E. teachers and students for taking personal interest to make this event successful. She also congratulated the winners and appreciated the sponsors for their generous contribution.

Kamran praised the students who received certificates by getting regional rankings in IGCSE, GCE examination and also reaffirmed the school's commitment to provide the best possible academic education.

The prize distribution was held at the beautifully decorated sports ground at the PISJ (ES) and was attended by luminaries in the Pakistani community. The winners received gold, silver and bronze medals for standing 1st, second and third positions, respectively.
