JEDDAH: Red Ribbons Club gave presentations two groups of students at International Indian School Jeddah and highlighted its activities recently.

The club was formed in July 2005 by a group of students of India’s MediCiti Institute of Medical Sciences guided by its faculty and doctors.

“We take pride in the fact that we are the first active AIDS awareness club in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh,” RRC’s Mir Samir Inayath said.

He focused on AIDS that is caused by the human immuno-deficiency (HIV) virus.

The club members have taken an oath of selfless service in promoting awareness of the disease. The club activities are divided into field research and work force development.

The members are trained about the various aspects of HIV as a disease and social problem.

The club undertakes its campaign at three levels — educating high school students about the modes of transmission and methods for prevention, spreading awareness among college students and those in the reproductive age group, and dealing with high risk people such as truck drivers, auto drivers and commercial sex workers.

“Awareness is still the only vaccine against HIV,” he said.

Inayath is a former student of IISJ and now he is a student of medicine in Hyderabad.
