Saudi Arabia condemns attacks on Jordan and Kuwait, reaffirms support

  • GCC chief Jasem Albudaiwi condemned the Iranian attacks on Jordan and Kuwait
  • Qatar joined the condemnations

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan and Kuwait, reaffirming the Kingdom’s solidarity with both countries.

The ministry said in a statement that Saudi Arabia supports the measures taken by both countries in response to what it described as Iranian violations of international law.

It reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection of attacks targeting critical infrastructure and civilian areas, calling for an immediate end to the aggression that impacted countries of the region.

The statement came after an Iranian strike hit a building belonging to a Chinese firm in north of Kuwait, killing a worker and causing significant damage to the structure. Iran also said it targeted US bases in Kuwait and Jordan after US forces bombed a building on Qeshm Island.

In a statement, Jasem Albudaiwi, secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), condemned the Iranian attacks on Jordan and Kuwait, stressing that they were "a flagrant violation of state sovereignty" and of international law.

He expressed full solidarity of the GCC states with Kuwait and Jordan, warning that the attacks were a dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability.

Qatar also joined the condemnations. In a statement, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the continued attacks represent a dangerous escalation that could undermine efforts to contain tensions and weaken political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at achieving regional security and stability.

The ministry called for the immediate and complete cessation of all military actions and attacks that threaten regional security and stability, urging all parties to avoid further escalation, return seriously to dialogue and negotiations, and uphold understandings reached through diplomatic efforts.

Qatar also reaffirmed its full solidarity with Jordan and Kuwait, expressing support for all measures the two countries take to safeguard their sovereignty and security.
