JEDDAH: Saudia, the Kingdom’s national carrier, in collaboration with the Air Connectivity Program and Saudi Tourism Authority, has announced the addition of Tokyo as a new international destination within its growing global network.
The new route will operate three flights a week from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, starting November 2026.
According to Saudia, the collaboration with the Air Connectivity Program aims to strengthen links with international markets by launching new routes and increasing international flight frequencies.
The introduction of direct flights between Saudi Arabia and Japan will “strengthen tourism and commercial activity between the two countries while expanding access to the Kingdom.”
The new route also contributes to the objectives of the National Aviation Strategy, the National Tourism Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030, which aim to establish Saudi Arabia as a leading global tourism destination and a logistics hub, the statement said.
The Saudi Tourism Authority is working with partners and agencies in Japan to create travel packages and destination promotion that would help attract more visitors to Saudi Arabia.
The route is launching at an important time ahead of the Kingdom hosting the AFC Asian Cup 2027. It will support travel for fans and visitors from Japan and strengthen the Kingdom’s readiness to welcome them.
“The addition of Tokyo carries strategic importance beyond traditional air connectivity. It creates a new bridge between Saudi Arabia and Japan, supporting the growing relationship between the two countries and their people,” the airline stated in a release on Wednesday.
Guests traveling with Saudia will be able to use advanced digital services that support an efficient travel experience.
The airline currently operates to more than 100 destinations across four continents, supported by a fleet of 153 aircraft. Saudia is also moving forward with a fleet expansion program that will add 112 new aircraft.
