ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will host the 9th Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad on Sunday and Monday, Pakistani state media reported.

The conference, held approximately every three to four years, brings together ministers from OIC member states to review progress on women’s rights, share national policies and adopt new frameworks.

“The Conference is aimed at developing a synthesis to create an enabling environment for women in the OIC-member countries where they can fully realize their potential to contribute to social-economic development,” the state-run Radio Pakistan broadcaster reported.

“It will also deliberate on enhancing the political and professional participation of women and advancing their access to economic resources and financial systems.”

Around 190 delegates from 57 OIC member countries, including prominent women personalities, government dignitaries, OIC observers and officials, will participate in the two-day conference.

“It will also focus on ways and means to bridge gender gaps in technology and digital participation,” the report read.

Past ministerial meetings have focused on themes such as women’s economic empowerment, combating gender-based violence, and improving access to education and health care.

The last OIC ministerial conference on women was held in Cairo in 2021 and focused on women’s empowerment, protection frameworks, and socio-economic participation.
