RIYADH: The UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopted a resolution submitted by Saudi Arabia on empowering women in cybersecurity during its 62nd session on Tuesday, drawing praise from the Muslim World League and other Islamic organizations.
The resolution builds on the “Women Empowerment in Cybersecurity” initiative launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2020.
Submitted by the Kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, the resolution aims to promote greater professional participation and skills development worldwide.
Addressing the council, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila said the initiative demonstrates the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation, providing technical assistance, and supporting capacity-building efforts.
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, secretary-general of the Muslim World League and president of the Organization of Muslim Scholars, welcomed the council’s adoption on behalf of the MWL and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
Both organizations reaffirmed their “pride in the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting international efforts to build a safer and more inclusive cyberspace,” Al-Issa said in a post on X.
