LONDON: Palestinian rescue teams recovered the bodies of eight people on Monday from rubble in Gaza City as the death toll from the Israel war rose to 73,098 since October 2023.
The bodies belong to members of the Safadi family, who lived in a house in the Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City. The building was hit by an Israeli airstrike, according to the Palestine News Agency.
At least 173,571 people have been injured, and more than 11,000 are still missing, believed to be buried under rubble since the outbreak of war in Gaza in late 2023.
Rescue operations continue for people believed to be trapped under the rubble of the Jadallah family’s home in the Sabra neighborhood.
According to the Gaza-based Ministry of Health, 1,072 people have been killed, and 3,463 others have been injured since a US-sponsored ceasefire took effect on Oct. 11 last year. Additionally, 799 bodies have been recovered during the same period.
Prominent international organizations have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders on charges of committing war crimes, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
