RIYADH: An Al Arabiya correspondent was killed on Wednesday when an explosive device detonated in his vehicle in Yemen, the network reported.
Mohammed Aydah died in the blast in the city of Mukalla in Hadhramout governorate. The father of four was alone in the vehicle after dropping his family off at home.
His body was transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital following the explosion, according to Al Arabiya.
The network said Aydah had received warnings from security services in Mukalla about threats to his life a month before the attack. It added that he had previously been targeted in 2018, when he escaped an attempted arrest by armed men in the capital, Sanaa.
Hadhramout Governor Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi said he had ordered an investigation into the killing.
Yemen’s Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi also ordered an investigation into the attack, according to the state-run Saba news agency.
Aydah had worked as a cameraman and correspondent for Al Arabiya in eastern Yemen since 2019.
A number of journalists and media workers have been killed or have disappeared since the start of Yemen’s civil war more than a decade ago.
