Parks, heritage sites, festivals boost summer tourism across Saudi regions

  • Parks, gardens, and public facilities play a key role in supporting tourism and accommodating visitors
  • Baha municipality manages 143 parks and public gardens across the city of Baha and its surrounding governorates

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s Baha region is witnessing a rise in visitors during the summer season, attracted by its mild weather, mountainous landscape, and attractions, including diverse events and programs held across its governorates and centers.

Parks, gardens, and public facilities play a key role in supporting tourism and accommodating visitors. Baha municipality manages 143 parks and public gardens across the city of Baha and its surrounding governorates and they serve as major destinations for recreation and leisure.

The municipality has also developed more than 45 sports and recreational walkways, allowing residents and visitors to stay active while enjoying the natural surroundings.

The region’s green spaces exceed 3 million sq. meters, enhancing the urban landscape and improving the quality of public spaces. Heritage villages are among the region’s main attractions, showcasing architectural and cultural legacies that help reflect its identity and history, along with distinctive natural settings and scenic viewpoints.

Asir municipality and its affiliated municipalities have raised their readiness for the summer season through a comprehensive operational plan aimed at improving services and preparing public facilities, tourist attractions, and recreational destinations to accommodate the growing number of visitors.

The municipality said its preparations had included the development and operation of 671 parks and public gardens across the region’s governorates and centers, providing diverse spaces for recreation, leisure, and sports activities. It has ensured public destinations are ready to welcome visitors throughout the season.

More than 1,500 field, technical, and supervisory personnel have been deployed — supported by equipment, machinery, and operational support centers — to ensure uninterrupted services, improve response times when needed, address reports promptly, and maintain high standards across public facilities, roads, parks, and markets.

The Baha and Asir regions continue to strengthen their positions as leading summer destinations in the Kingdom, supported by their natural diversity, tourism and heritage sites, and the development of facilities and services.

Parks in Turaif governorate, in the Northern Borders region, are also attracting large numbers of visitors as the pleasant weather encourages outdoor recreation.

The governorate is home to more than 25 parks, walkways, and green spaces covering about 650,000 sq. meters and offering a wide range of recreational and sports facilities, along with various services and amenities.

Its efforts are part of initiatives to enhance the urban environment and transform parks into vibrant community spaces that promote well-being, support tourism, and contribute to environmental sustainability.

The Unaizah Summer Festival begins on July 2 at Al-Ashrafiya Park in Unaizah governorate. Organized by the governorate’s tourism development committee in cooperation with the municipality and relevant authorities, the 30-day festival aims to boost tourism and economic activity while offering diverse entertainment for all age groups.

The event will feature a variety of activities, including open-air children’s theater performances, daily cultural and entertainment competitions, a handicrafts pavilion, a heritage photography studio, food truck zones, and marketing booths supporting productive families and young entrepreneurs.
