Coalition launches rehabilitation program in Moroni

MORONI: The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition has launched its rehabilitation and social reintegration program in Moroni in the Union of the Comoros.

It forms part of the coalition’s Rehabilitation and Reintegration Initiative for Individuals with Extremist Ideologies and Terrorist Behavior, known as Idmaj.

The launch was attended by Youssoufa Mohamed Ali, director of the president’s office in charge of defense of the Union of the Comoros; Mansour Al-Qarni, the coalition’s director of intellectual affairs; several civilian and military officials; 30 trainees specializing in rehabilitation and reintegration; and representatives from relevant Comorian entities.

Running until June 26, the program is part of the coalition’s efforts to build member states’ national capacities to prevent extremism and strengthen rehabilitation and reintegration programs.

It covers six main themes, including the nature of the crime of terrorism; concepts of rehabilitation and reintegration; and the model framework for rehabilitation and reintegration programs.

It also looks at the fundamentals of designing specialized programs; the scientific foundations of rehabilitation and reintegration; and the challenges associated with implementing these programs.

The program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to develop and implement rehabilitation and social reintegration programs, addressing extremist ideology and terrorist behavior while enhancing the capacity of national institutions to reintegrate beneficiaries effectively and sustainably.
