DHAHRAN: Team Lynx, from the host city, took home the top prize at the Ithra STEM Racing event at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture on Saturday.
The competition is deigned to test young people’s skills in designing, engineering and racing miniature cars powered by compressed air. It also demands expertise in management and teamwork.
The event attracted 20 teams and more than 280 competitors from Dhahran, Jubail, Al-Ahsa, Riyadh, Jeddah and Madinah.
Team Baz from Jeddah filled the runners-up spot, followed by Team Anaq from Madinah and Team Drein from Al-Ahsa.
All four teams will now go on to compete at the world finals in Singapore from Oct. 3-8, an event in which Saudi Arabia has thrived, with several of its teams achieving top 10 global rankings.
Speaking at the end of the Dhahran event, Mussab Al-Saaran, acting director of Ithra, was full of praise for the competitors.
“On this occasion, we celebrate the remarkable achievement and reap the rewards of investing in people,” he said.
“We reaffirm our commitment to building a generation that not only possesses knowledge and skill but is capable of shaping the future.”
Maha Abdulhadi, head of the STEM Racing program, agreed.
“We are proud of what the students participating in the Saudi STEM competition have achieved this year,” she said.
“The program’s journey has revealed a generation with exceptional abilities and a genuine passion for innovation, and the qualification of the four teams for the global competition in Singapore reflects the level of excellence demonstrated by the participants.”
