Makkah honors Hajj volunteer contributions

MAKKAH: Makkah municipality recently concluded its community engagement and volunteer initiatives for the Hajj season as part of its efforts to provide high-quality services to pilgrims.

More than 9,300 volunteers were involved across Makkah and the holy sites, contributing more than 620,000 hours of their time and benefitting more than 708,000 pilgrims. They were supported by 41 community organizations and 34 nonprofit associations and institutions.

The initiatives included hundreds of field, service and awareness programs, as well as meetings, workshops, coordination and development activities.

The economic impact of the volunteer work exceeded SR35 million ($9.3 million).

The initiatives reflect strong collaboration between the municipal sector, nonprofit organizations and volunteers in serving pilgrims.
