LONDON: Syrian authorities said that 54 water stations remain out of service due to floods that have affected the Deir Ezzor governorate, located along the Euphrates River in the southeastern part of the country.
Authorities are also dispatching humanitarian aid through charities to help residents, including medical supplies, food baskets and three boats, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
The General Authority for Water Resources reported that 30 water stations returned to service after surging water levels along the Euphrates River affected about 2,400 families in late May.
Donations from Syrians and charities were sent to Deir Ezzor to provide relief aid and essential materials to affected families, SANA added.
Heavy rainfall led authorities to open some gates at the Euphrates Dam to relieve pressure, resulting in flooding in the region. About 1.25 million people live in the Deir Ezzor governorate, which shares borders with Iraq to the east and Jordan to the south.
