Trump says ‘would like to meet’ Iran leader Khamenei, confirms calling Netanyahu ‘crazy’

  • Trump said he will probably meet Iran’s Ayatollah at some point
  • He also said he was ‘perturbed’ with Israel’s Netanyahu over Lebanon

US President Donald Trump said he “would like to meet” Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei, in an interview published Wednesday.

“I would like to meet him, and we probably will meet at some point, depending on how it all works out,” Trump told the New York Post’s “Pod Force One.”

Trump said that Iran has agreed ‌to ‌not have ‌a nuclear weapon and that Iran's Ayatollah is involved in negotiations with ‌the United States.

“They've ‌already agreed ‌they're ‌not going to have a ‌nuclear weapon,” he said.

On Lebanon, Trump acknowledged having a harsh exchange with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying ‌in ‌the interview  that he was not happy with Israel’s fighting with Lebanon.

“I did,” Trump said. “I ‌wouldn’t say angry. I was a little ‌bit perturbed at his constantly fighting with Lebanon, you know.”

Trump went on to say he and Netanyahu get along very well.

According to the Axios report, which cited an unidentified US official, Trump said to Netanyahu in a call on Monday: “You’re f***ing crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your a**. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”

Trump said in the interview: “At some point I said, Bibi, we got to stop this. We got to stop it.”
