LONDON: Three Syrian soldiers were killed and several others injured in an explosion at a site used for storing unexploded ordnance, the military said on Thursday.
The blast happened at a site in Daraa province, in the south of the country, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
“The explosion claimed the lives of three Syrian army soldiers and injured many others, causing material damage to the place,” a military source said.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident, the report said.
Several members of the army have been killed in incidents involving exploded mines or ordnance left by the Bashar Assad regime during the civil war, which lasted from 2011 to 2024.
Such devices also pose a threat to civilians, and authorities have been working to clear areas affected by the conflict so that people can return to their villages.
