RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Thursday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement that Lebanon and Israel had agreed to a 10-day ceasefire.
The truce will begin at 9pm GMT on Thursday, signalling a pause in Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah that has raged in parallel to the war with Iran.
The Kingdom expressed its appreciation for the “significant and positive role” played by President Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese government headed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri.
The Foreign Ministry said the Kingdom “reiterates its support for the Lebanese state in extending its sovereignty and confining weapons to the state and its legitimate institutions.”
The ministry also praised Lebanese efforts to preserve the country’s resources, safety, and territorial integrity.
