RIYADH: The Saudi Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned riots, assaults and acts of vandalism that targeted the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The Kingdom affirmed its rejection to assaults and any acts of violence targeting diplomats, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety of diplomats and the headquarters of diplomatic missions in line with the relevant international laws and norms.
The Saudi statement also rejected the “unacceptable offenses directed at the national symbols of the brotherly State of the United Arab Emirates.”
On Saturday, the UAE Foreign Ministry said riots and acts of vandalism occurred outside its diplomatic mission and the residence of its head of mission in Damascus.
The UAE called on Syria to fulfil its obligations to secure the embassy and its staff, investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure it is not repeated, the ministry said in a statement.
