TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi conveyed his respect on Thursday for Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s efforts toward finding a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.
Japan’s foreign ministry reported that Motegi held a telephone conversation with Prince Faisal and thanked the foreign minister for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to maintain a stable energy supply despite the de-facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Motegi said that Japan would continue its own diplomatic efforts to try to achieve a de-escalation of the conflict with Iran and would like to further cooperate with Saudi Arabia.
Motegi also expressed sympathy over the damage caused by Iranian attacks in Saudi Arabia.
Prince Faisal explained that Saudi Arabia was continuing mediation efforts in cooperation with various countries to achieve a diplomatic resolution, and provided an overview of future prospects.
The two ministers agreed to work closely together to try to de-escalate tensions in the region and shared the view that it was important to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.
