LONDON: Bahraini authorities arrested three people on suspicion of forming a cell linked to Hezbollah, which has been designated a terrorist group since 2013.
The Ministry of Interior identified the suspects in their 20s on Monday as Ahmed Madan, Hassan Ashoor and Muntadhar Madan.
They are suspected of espionage aimed at undermining Bahrain’s sovereignty, spreading fear and panic, and endangering the country’s security and safety, Bahrain News Agency reported.
Authorities said that the trio received weapons training after meeting with members of Hezbollah in Lebanon and sent images and information about the repercussions of Iranian aggression against Bahrain. They are also accused of raising funds for Hezbollah disguised as charitable work.
Since Feb. 28, Iran has launched missiles and drones targeting various sites in Bahrain, one of several countries attacked after Israel and the US initiated a joint military campaign against Tehran.
Bahrain condemned the attacks and reiterated that it is not part of any US-led action against Iran and is not a party in the regional conflict.
