RIYADH: Pakistani conjoined twins Sufyan and Yusuf arrived in Riyadh on Monday to be assessed for possible separation surgery.
The twins were flown to Saudi Arabia in accordance with directives from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and arrived at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, accompanied by their family, a press release issued by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center said.
On arrival, the twins were taken to King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital, which operates under the Saudi Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, for evaluation and to assess the possibility of separation surgery.
“It usually takes weeks to do proper assessment and evaluation before finally deciding the schedule for surgery, if possible, to separate the conjoined twins,” the KSrelief media department told Arab News.
A Saudi Conjoined Twins Program spokesperson said a comprehensive evaluation will be carried out to assess the possibility of an operation.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom, Ahmad Farooq, told Arab News: “On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, I express our heartfelt gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their gracious support in facilitating the medical evaluation and planned separation surgery of Pakistani conjoined twins in the Kingdom.
“We are also deeply appreciative of Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, supervisor general of the KSrelief, and head of the medical and surgical team of the Saudi Conjoined Twins Program, and the dedicated medical team for their expertise and commitment in giving hope to this family,” said the envoy.
“This compassionate humanitarian gesture reflects the Kingdom’s enduring commitment to the service of humanity and further strengthens the long-standing bonds of brotherhood between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.”
Al-Rabeeah voiced his appreciation to the Saudi leadership for the humanitarian initiative.
He said that the initiative highlights Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian mission in caring for children from around the world suffering from complex conditions.
The Saudi medical team’s expertise and achievements in separating conjoined twins have solidified the Kingdom’s position as a leading global authority in this specialized field and a beacon of hope for families seeking a better future for their twins.
The family of the Pakistani conjoined twins expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Saudi government, and its people for the warm welcome and generous hospitality they received, and for the swift response to the twins’ case.
