Iran envoy to Saudi Arabia praises ‘sober positions’ in region amid rising tensions

RIYADH: Iran’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Alireza Enayati has warned against efforts to destabilize the Middle East, praising what he described as “sober positions” in the region that favor dialogue over confrontation.

In a post on X, Enayati said there were forces seeking to “set the region ablaze, squander its wealth, halt the wheel of development in it, and impose war upon it,” adding that “there are those who want to shuffle the cards, drive wedges between its countries, and stir up sedition within it.”

The post, which included both an Iranian flag and a Saudi flag side by side, continued: “And there are sober positions in the neighborhood that reject any hostile action against Iran, encourage the language of dialogue, and refuse to accept despicable recklessness.”

His remarks come as Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to de-escalation, rejecting reports suggesting the Kingdom had shifted its stance on regional tensions.

A senior Saudi official told Asharq Al-Awsat on Sunday that Riyadh has continued to support diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes between the US and Iran, stressing that the Kingdom rejected the use of its airspace or territory for any military operations against Tehran.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also reiterated that position during a telephone call this week with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, underlining Saudi Arabia’s respect for Iran’s sovereignty and its support for dialogue aimed at strengthening regional security and stability.

According to Pezeshkian, the call covered developments in Iran and discussions surrounding Tehran’s nuclear file, and he thanked Saudi Arabia for its stance on Iran’s territorial integrity. He also praised the crown prince’s role in promoting stability across the region.

AlUla fuel stations redefine desert architecture

ALULA: Fuel stations in the AlUla governorate showcase a modern approach to urban planning, with designs inspired by the region’s natural landscape and desert palette.

They harmonize architecture with the environment, enhance the urban landscape, and redefine traditional fuel stations, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The designs use contemporary materials and lines that reflect AlUla’s identity, enriching aesthetics and user experience while preserving the desert setting.

Architect Salwa Samargandi of SAL Architects developed these innovative designs, balancing functionality and aesthetics with inspiration from AlUla’s cultural heritage.

One fuel station project won the World Architecture Award in the Realized Projects category, selected by an international jury.

These initiatives are part of the Royal Commission for AlUla’s efforts to enhance infrastructure, support national talent, and improve services for residents and visitors.

The commission also established the AlUla Design Studio to guide architects and the community in creating projects that harmonize with the natural environment.

The studio offers consultations on new constructions and restorations, ensuring compliance with urban planning and sustainability standards.

This participatory approach preserves AlUla’s architectural heritage while empowering the local community to choose development options that respect the region’s history and uphold safety and sustainability.
