RIYADH: The National Center for Wildlife is celebrating Gulf Wildlife Day, highlighting its role in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable ecosystems throughout the Kingdom.
Observed annually on Dec. 30, Gulf Wildlife Day emphasizes the importance of regional coordination among Gulf Cooperation Council countries in wildlife conservation. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving species and to highlight various initiatives supporting biodiversity, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
In support of the event, the center is presenting its specialized programs for breeding and reintroducing endangered wildlife.
These efforts focus on restoring ecological balance in protected areas, managing nature reserves through habitat monitoring, and promoting responsible ecotourism. The center is also reinforcing its community role awareness through campaigns and educational partnerships that encourage responsible environmental behavior.
Biodiversity in the Kingdom is vast, with 65 ecosystems that are home to more than 12,000 wildlife species, including birds, mammals and plants. This diversity highlights the importance of ongoing efforts to preserve natural resources and maintain biodiversity for future generations.
